WOODSIDE - Shirley Ann Holleger passed away Saturday May 10, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital, Newark. She was 78. Mrs. Holleger was born April 22, 1936 in Dover to the late Clifton Short and Edna Lula David Short. She was a homemaker but had worked as a waitress for State Restaurant for 2 years, then at Braunstein's in the Blue Hen Mall for 10 years and then in 1985 at the Delaware State News in the bindery department. On weekends she would sell produce, along with her husband, at both Spences and Laurel Flee markets for many years. She enjoyed Bingo, dice games, crocheting, puzzle books and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mrs. Holleger was a member of the Modern Maturity Center in Dover and loved to attend the dinner dances. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Holleger in 2001; a brother, Clifton James Short; and a sister, Edna Jean Sheppard. She is survived by her children, James Holleger, Jr and his wife Sylvia, of Milford, Patricia A. Mitchell of Dover, Bonnie Holleger Pinder and her husband Gilbert, of Bridgeville, Carrie Rae Kimball and her husband Mark, of Felton, Michael G. Holleger and his wife Barbara, of Petersburg, Richard Scott Holleger of Woodside, and Edna Beth Holleger and her companion John, of Woodside; sister, Mary Jane Hastings of Dover; sister-in-law, Joanne Short and brother-in-law, Fred Holleger both of Dover; niece, Rebecca Holleger of Rehoboth Beach; sixteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and many nieces and newphews and extended family members. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
