LONG NECK - Shawn Thomas Foard, was born in Danville, Ill. and resided in Long Neck. On Jan. 22, 2018 Shawn said: "I'm ready" and surrendered his soul to God after a valiant battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family and his love of his life, Caryn McCardell.
Shawn was a graduate of Church Farm School, PA and through his youth played in numerous traveling soccer leagues in the North Wilmington area, and was a soccer star.
His early work included ARC of Baltimore, and later became an Arborist working for Fair Hill State Park and most current years at Tunnel Companies in Millsboro, who showed compassion and kindness during his illness.
Shawn spent his years breathing nature. He was a lover of life; avid fisherman, crabber, bird-watcher, wood carver and artist. Known for his "happy smile" and in every encounter he made a friend. Shawn's legacy will live on through his mother, Georgia (Foard/ Lewes); his brother, Chris, his "rock" (Foard/ Magnolia); two other brothers, Bill (Columbus, Ohio) George (Keyser, W.Va.) and their families; including Caryn, his "one true north" and the McCardell family.
In celebration of Shawn, enjoy a sunset, cast a rod, feed the birds and pick up a paint brush and canvas. And at the end of the day, say: "It's all good."
Gifts can be made in Shawn's name to Bayhealth (Hospital) Foundation, 640 South State Street, Dover, DE 19901. 302-744-7015. Plans to create a "Healing Tree" foundation in his memory.
A celebration of his life is planned for Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Lakeside Community Center in Pot Nets, Longneck.
