Shannon Carol Killen McCarty, 46
AUSTIN, TX - Shannon Carol Killen McCarty passed away Sunday, September 12, 2021. She was born on April 27, 1975, in Dover, DE. Shannon was most happy being a mother to her children, Kylie, Tyler, and Kacie. Additionally, she stepped into the mom-role to both Olivia and Jordan. She enjoyed traveling, the Denver Broncos, and eating terrible things such as scrapple. Anyone who knew Shannon knew she had a zest for life and had an infectious laugh. She loved her family, her pets, her friends and all things fun.
Shannon grew up in Delaware, graduating from Lake Forest High School in 1993. Shannon met her husband, Ron, at Shakey's Pizza in Dover where they both worked. Soon after graduation the two would move to Lexington, VA where Kylie and Tyler would be born. Moving back to Delaware five years later, Shannon became heavily involved in her kids' sports activities while also starting on her soon-to-be long career in the corporate world. She would work in the industry for the next twenty years, advancing herself at each stop along the way. The move back to Delaware also brought along the final addition to the family, Kacie.
Shannon moved her family to Austin, TX as part of her career path. Austin became home very quickly and became a place she absolutely loved – the people, the weather, the landscape and all the things to go do and see.
Shannon was diagnosed in March of 2020 with stage 4 Cholangiocarcinoma, a rare fast-moving cancer. She fought the cancer to the inevitable bitter end, hoping to spend just one more day with her family. She never gave up.
Shannon is survived by her husband, Ron; her children, Kylie, Tyler and Kacie; her parents, Linwood Killen and Carol Humphrey; brothers, Nicholas Killen and Cory Lemmons and her pets, Comet, Koa, Oliver, and Max.
In lieu of flowers, Shannon asked that anyone who can, donate to the Cholangiocarcinoma foundation at
https://cholangiocarcinoma.org/. She hopes to bring more awareness and an eventual cure to this rare cancer.
A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor on Saturday October 2nd at 3 p.m. The celebration will be held at her father's home, 354 Henry Cowgill Rd., Camden-Wyoming DE.
