Selbyville man charged with reckless endangering

FRANKFORD — A 40-year-old Selbyville man was charged with felony reckless endangering and other counts following an incident Saturday.

According to the Delaware State Police, at approximately 9:44 a.m., Moises Espinoza-Saldivar drove a van toward three construction workers at a residence in the 35300 block of Cape Lane. Troopers subsequently took him into custody without further incident.

Police said the encounter occurred after an argument. The three men attempted to jump out of the way as the van approached; however, one of them was struck and pinned against a deck.

The 44-year-old injured man was flown by Trooper 2 to an area trauma hospital for serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Two children were on the deck when the collision occurred, and two others came outside when they heard the yelling, troopers said.

While taking the suspect into custody, officers observed signs of impairment and smelled alcohol on his breath. Troopers also located a small bottle of whiskey in his jacket pocket during a search, authorities said.

Mr. Espinoza-Saldivar was charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, first-degree reckless endangering (four counts), second-degree vehicular assault, endangering the welfare of a child (three counts), driving a vehicle under the influence, driving while revoked and offensive touching. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on an $88,300 cash bond.
