I am writing in response to a news article published in the Daily State News, “Dover pedestrian ordinance resurfaces after FOIA violation” by Xiomara Moore. I would like to formally express my concern regarding the conduct of Councilman David Anderson during the April 27 City Council meeting. As a Dover resident who values open and respectful civic engagement, I was deeply troubled by the dismissive and discourteous manner in which members of the public were addressed by Councilman Anderson during this particular meeting and previous meetings. During the meeting, several residents, including my mother, observed instances where Councilman Anderson interrupted speakers, used an unprofessional tone and appeared unwilling to listen to community concerns.
Further, I was troubled by instances where Councilman Anderson’s tone and demeanor toward residents appeared dismissive and condescending. Such behavior not only undermines public trust but discourages citizens from participating in the democratic process. Public service is built on mutual respect and open dialogue. When community members feel belittled or unheard, it causes harm. I respectfully request that this matter be reviewed and that steps be taken to ensure that Councilman Anderson upholds the standards of professionalism, respect and courtesy expected in public service. Our community deserves a council that listens to and values every voice.
