I wanted to share some honest feedback regarding the community meeting Thursday, April 16, at the John W. Pitts Recreation Center at Schutte Park, organized by Dover City Councilwoman Donyale Hall and Councilman Roy Sudler. While I appreciate the effort that goes into organizing these gatherings, I left feeling that the discussion lacked focus and didn’t lead to any meaningful outcomes. Many people I spoke to who attended this meeting had hope of receiving clear updates and actionable solutions to the pressing issues affecting our neighborhoods. Unfortunately, the meeting did not provide meaningful answers or concrete plans, leaving residents feeling unheard and frustrated. Time is valuable, and most of us attend these meetings in good faith, expecting transparency, accountability and follow-through. Unfortunately, this was not the case with this meeting. For me, it appeared more like political grandstanding than substance. We don’t need political theatrics but real change in our communities. It is obvious that the city of Dover is dying and in need of resuscitation.
I have been following the challenges our city has been facing — from economic decline and infrastructure concerns to the ongoing issues with crime and the quality and responsiveness of our police department. These issues affect not only our quality of life but future opportunities for our families and businesses.
I urge Councilwoman Hall and Councilman Sudler to ensure that future meetings are better structured, with clear agendas, prepared responses to previously raised concerns and tangible next steps. This will help rebuild trust and demonstrate that our voices truly matter.
I look forward to seeing improvements in how our community discussions are conducted and hope that our next meeting will be a productive step for the future.
