SUDLERSVILLE, Md. - Mrs. Sarah V. "Sadie" Smith of Sudlersville, died on Thursday, May 17, 2012 in the Chester River Hospital Ctr., Chestertown. She was 93. Mrs. Smith was born in Sudlersville. The daughter of the late J. Noble and Ora Marvel Hardestey. Mrs. Smith was a Postal clerk for the U.S. Postal service for many yrs. in Sudlersville, retiring in 1984. Ms. "Sadie" has been a very active member in her community for a long time. She started the PTA at the Sudlersville Elementary School. She was a active member of the Calvary-Asbury United Methodist Church in Sudlersville for many years serving as a Sunday school teacher and Superintendent for many years. M's "Sadie" and her husband Foster were members of the Young Adult group from the church that initiated the revival of Dudley's Chapel Church near Sudlersville. She was a member of the Sudlersville Homemakers, she worked for many years with the local 4-H group helping with sewing, she enjoyed helping with the 4-H Fair serving as a hostess in the Home Arts section. She volunteered for many years with the Sudlersville Vol. Fire Co. Carnival, and also served as a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout leader. Her Girl Scouting leadership began many years ago. And she was one of the founding members of the Top of the Hill Club. M's. "Sadie" Loved to cook for family and friends and always enjoyed their company. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith is predeceased by her husband, Foster A. Smith in 1998l; and a sister, Marion Hickman. She is survived by two daughters, Faye Williams and her husband Richard of Sudlersville, and Joan Smith of Dickeyville; one son, Robert and Debra Smith of Easton; one sister, Lillian Skinner of Sudlersville; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m, Wednesday, May 23, 2012 in the Calvary - Asbury United Methodist Church Sudlersville, where friends and family may call after 10 a.m. Friends and family may also call 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 22, 2012 in the Fellows Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home 370 W. Cypress St. Millington, Md. Interment will be in the Sudlersville Cemetery, Sudlersville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory to the Calvary-Asbury U.M.
