Sarah Pardee Flowers CHESTERTOWN, MD - Sarah Pardee Flowers, a former resident of Chestertown, Md died December 27th in Westlake Village, California. She was 86. A native of Dover Delaware, Mrs. Flowers was born on May 31, 1923. She graduated from Dover High School in 1941 and then married her high school sweetheart Thomas McDougall. After his unexpected death in a military training exercise, she returned to Wilmington, Delaware and earned a Nursing degree from Brandywine Nursing School. It was during the time she was employed by Doeskin Co. as an industrial nurse that she was introduced by a friend to Roy Flowers who later became her husband. They eventually settled at Pear Tree Point where they were the first full time residents of the community and made it their home for over 40 years. Five children and house construction kept her busy but she still found time to return to school at Washington College and received her Bachelors degree in Science. An opportunity to attend John's Hopkins University and receive a Masters degree in Geriatric Nursing was the culmination of a lifetime of always looking for opportunities to advance her education. As Mrs. Flowers was fond of saying "I am the original Sanitary Engineer." Not even five children, numerous pets and continual construction projects could pose a problem she couldn't resolve. During this time "Miss Sarah", as she was known, was employed by the Kent County Health Department as a visiting nurse and later a Geriatric Nurse Practicioner. She retired after 25 years service. Mrs. Flowers is survived by her daughters, Candace Founds of Pittsburgh, Pa., Cynthia Schwalm of Ridgewood N.J., Christine Flowers of Sacramento,Calif.; her son, Kerry Flowers of Hoboken N.J.; and three granddaughters, Emily, Chelsea and Whitney; her sister, Lula Carrow of Dover Del.; and three brothers, Charles Pardee of Dover Del., Robert Pardee of Dover Del., and Thomas Pardee of Harrington, Del. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Roy Edward Flowers; and her son Bruce Flowers. A family celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on June 25th in Chestertown, Maryland at the Hynson - Wilmer Park Pavilion. The family has suggested that any memorial contributions be made to the Beuna Vista Hospice, 143 Triunfo Cyn RD #103, Westlake Village, CA 91361
