On the morning of October 8, 2024, Sara Jane Sheridan Herbert passed from this life surrounded by her loving family at the age of 78.
Born in Salisbury, MD on April 21, 1946, Sara was the daughter of Richard B. Sheridan and Virginia E. Rawlings. She attended Wicomico High School excelling at swimming, basketball, and cheerleading. Sara graduated with a B. A. degree in psychology from Delaware State University and applied her degree to helping countless families in Cecil County, MD.
She enjoyed baking, and her children fondly recall the house being filled with the smell of fresh bread when coming home from school. Sara moved to Dover from Newark to be near two of her grandchildren. Once in Dover, Sara volunteered on several committees to support the community. She loved Christmas and although she believed a Christmas tree could never have too much tinsel her home was a joy to be in during that special time of year. Sara loved walking her puppies every day through Dover.
Preceded in death by her parents; she is survived by her loving husband, Robert Herbert; her daughter, Elizabeth DuRoss (Mike); her son, Bryon Short (Kristin); her granddaughters, McKinley and Rowan Short; her grandson, Alex DuRoss and granddaughter, Nadia Brandis (Sam); step- children, Dan Herbert and Jill Herbert; and her brother, Richard Sheridan.
There was nothing Grams would not do for her children and grandchildren and she will be dearly missed by all.
The family plans to hold a celebration of life in the spring of 2025.
