FREDERICA - Sandra Y. (Benton) Melvin passed away peacefully at Milford Center on Thursday, July 21, 2016. Sandra was born in Milford, daughter of the late George William and Ruth Irene (Handy) Benton. She was a manager with McDonalds for the past several years working at several area locations. Sandra enjoyed crocheting and knitting, but she especially loved spending time with her family and her dog, Little One. Sandra is survived by her husband of 15 years, Wayne Melvin; four children, Jason Whitby, Richard Whitby, Tuesday Whitby and Cynthia Neal and her husband, Terrance; four granddaughters, Arihanna, J'Nyah, Kayleigh and Aiva; four brothers, George Benton, Sr., and wife, Windy, Lee Benton and wife, Mary, Bruce Benton and wife, Missy, and William Benton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, with visitation after 10 a.m. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation made to the funeral home to help defray expenses.
