Sam Hunt, Nelly to perform at Delaware State Fair

Posted

HARRINGTON — Sam Hunt, Nelly, ZZ Top and TobyMac are slated for next year’s Delaware State Fair, officials announced Tuesday.

Tickets go on sale Nov. 19 at 10 a.m.

The announcement included the first five shows for the 2022 concert series at the M&T Bank Grandstand. After COVID-19 stripped down the 2020 fair, it was back in nearly full force last summer.

Mr. Hunt and TobyMac were slated for the 2021 state fair, but six shows in the concert lineup were canceled due to protocols associated with the ongoing pandemic.

Nelly recently visited Delaware, with a performance at Dover’s Firefly Music Festival.

Next year’s shows will be back to regular seating, after the use of pods at during the fair this year.

Mr. Hunt, with Roman Alexander, will take the stage July 21. The artist combines country, hip hop and R&B with singles like “Leave the Night On,” “Take Your Time,” “House Party” and “Break Up in a Small Town.”

Tickets will range in price from $52-$99, and Delaware State Fair VIP packages will be available. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. The show starts at 7:30.

Nelly will perform July 23. Known for blurring borders between hip hop and other genres, Nelly bounded into pop immediately with 2000’s “Country Grammar,” debuting his lilting, keyed-up melodic rhymes over boastful cuts like the title track, which converted a schoolyard clapping game into an instantly familiar, uniquely playful hook. He solidified his mainstream status on 2002’s “Nellyville,” thanks to “Hot in Herre,” a funky, sweaty night-out essential blessed by the white-hot touch of The Neptunes.

Tickets will range from $25-$65, with VIP packages available. Gates open at 6:30 p.m., with the show at 7:30.

TobyMac will play July 26. The artist is an American Christian hip hop rapper and singer. Tickets will range between $20-$60, with VIP packages available. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m., with the show beginning at 7:30.

ZZ Top is slated to play July 27. Upon forming in Houston in 1969, ZZ Top was among a wave of Southern rock bands outfitting bluesy, British Invasion-schooled riffs with countrified fingerpicking and desert-baked grooves. Tickets will range between $30-$65, with VIP packages on hand. Gates open at 6:30 p.m., with the show starting at 7:30.

Also slated for the fair is the traditional demolition derby, which will return to the Grandstand on July 24. Tickets range from $18-$20. Gates will open at 5 p.m., with the show following at 6.
