Salisbury man convicted in kidnapping case
Deandre Ballard, 29, of Salisbury, was convicted Monday of two counts of human trafficking, one count of kidnapping and one count of conspiracy-kidnapping, according to Wicomico County State's Attorney Matthew Maciarello.
Charges stemmed from an incident that occurred during October and November, 2014.
Ballard was sentenced in Wicomico County Circuit Court to 10 years in jail for each count of human trafficking, 30 years for kidnapping and 30 years suspended consecutive for conspiracy-kidnapping.
The total sentence was 80 years, with all but 50 years in jail and four years supervised probation.
Ballard was also ordered to register as a sex offender. He is currently serving a 20-year sentence for drug-related charges.
Maciarello commended Salisbury Police, Maryland State Police and the Department of Homeland Security, along with investigating officers and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Kristen Schultz, who prosecuted the case.
