A 22-year-old Salisbury University graduate student was killed in an accident that caused a fire after impact in Pittsville Nov. 24, according to Maryland State Police.

Jason Darnell Smith died in the accident, at 3:10 p.m., at the intersection of Gumboro Road and East Line Road in Pittsville, police said.

The truck he was driving collided with a tractor-trailer, police said. The driver of the tractor-trailer, Craig Fosque, 50, of Millsboro, was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center, police said.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He was a personal trainer at World Gym.

Man, pet dog killed in Salisbury blaze

A Salisbury man and his dog both died as a result of a house fire in the 600 block of Cottontail Drive on Nov. 28, according to the state Fire Marshal’s Office.

Charles Wintermoyer, 65, who owned the home and lived alone, died from smoke inhalation in the fire, which originated in a second floor living room, according to the fire marshal’s office.

Firefighters responded around 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 28. They found Wintermoyer at the top of the stairs.

Personnel tried to revive the dog with CPR, but it also died.

The blaze was brought under control in about 35 minutes.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to the fire marshal’s office.

No injuries in Fruitland home fire

Nobody was injured in a mobile home fire Dec. 1 at 4058 Skylar Drive in Fruitland, according to the state fire marshal’s office.

The home is owned by Robert Stidham Jr. and had $1,000 damage to the structure.

Firefighters from Salisbury, Fruitland and Allen responded and took 10 minutes to bring the blaze under control, according to the fire marshal’s office.

The fire was discovered by the owner and began in the rear bedroom. The preliminary cause was arson, and investigation is continuing, according to the fire marshal’s office.

City police issue shoplifting arrest reports

In an effort to reduce shoplifting incidents, Salisbury police released the names of those charged from Nov. 24 to Nov. 30. The following were charged.

Matthew Allen Domenic, 27, of Salisbury; John Parker Gilbert, 48, of Salisbury; Tiger Nicole Rodriguez, 24, of Cambridge; Michael Brandon Davis, 34, of Salisbury; Amy Yvonne Knox, 39, of Salisbury; and John O’Connor Carter, 21, of Salisbury.

Salisbury man charged with armed robbery

A 20-year-old Salisbury man was charged with armed robbery, robbery, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and theft on Nov. 24, according to Salisbury police.

Trevon Lamar Robinson was arrested after police, at 4:10 a.m., responded to the Best Western at 1735 North Salisbury Boulevard for a reported armed robbery, police said. During the investigation police learned two men forced a victim into the bathroom of her hotel room and removed several items of personal property, police said.

Detectives contacted the Maryland State Apprehension Team, who located Robinson during a traffic stop and saw the victim’s state identification card in plain view in the center console of the vehicle, police said.

Police said they got a search warrant for Robinson’s vehicle  and detectives found a .357 magnum handgun, known as a pellet gun, and two black ski masks in the trunk.

Police said the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Salisbury police.

Couple charged with neglecting children

A Salisbury husband and wife were in the Wicomico County Detention Center, each being held on $30,000 bond, and charged with child neglect, according to  Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

Leslie Ann Pruitt Parks, 44, and Leonard Joseph Parks, 62, were also charged with contributing to the condition of a child, deputies said.

The two were arrested  Nov. 30 in the 7000 block of Jersey Road after a Nov. 24 incident, deputies said.

On Nov. 24 at 11:14 p.m., a deputy was called to a closed business for a report of two young children sitting on the front steps for some time.

The children, 9 and 12 years old, told the deputy they had been kicked out of their house where they were staying, the deputy said. He learned that a couple had been watching them for their  mother when a man in the house told them to find the television remote within 15 minutes or he would kick them out.

The children were unable to find it, and told the deputy they were pushed outside, the door was locked and the lights were turned off, the deputy said.

He said the children did not know anyone to call and waited outside the store about two hours, until the deputy stopped to talk to them.

Woman accused in Glen Avenue assault

A 24-year-old Salisbury woman was in jail on $10,000 bail charged with second-degree assault, according to a Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

Eboni Monique  Peterson was charged Nov. 28 after a deputy, at  11:27 p.m., responded to an apartment in the 300 block of Glen Avenue in Salisbury for a reported disturbance.

The said he  met with a resident who said an argument began with her adult daughter and it became physical. The victim said she was punched in the face. During the investigation, the deputy said, he observed signs of injury that corroborated the account.

Salisbury man charged with assault

A 55-year-old Salisbury man was being held on $105,000 bail charged with assault, according to a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office.

David Craig Robinson was charged Nov. 27 in the 500 block of Swan Road, Salisbury, following a complaint made to the district court commissioner alleging a man  assaulted a woman  and poured beer on her, the deputy said.

Seaford man charged with city car theft

An 18-year-old Seaford man was in jail on $15,000 bail charged with theft of a motor vehicle  and theft, according to a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office.

Tyanthony Grant Johnson was charged Nov. 26 in the 600 block of Suffolk Court, Salisbury, after a deputy responded to a report of a stolen motor vehicle, the deputy said.

The victim said her a man drove away from her residence in her vehicle without permission.

At 8:53 p.m., the deputy observed a  man operating the vehicle on Parsons Road in Salisbury, the deputy said.

During the investigation, the deputy said he discovered the victim’s credit cards in plain view, along with recently purchased merchandise inside the vehicle. After examining the purchases, it appeared that after taking the vehicle, the man used the victim’s credit cards to shop at the Centre of Salisbury, the deputy said.
