Salisbury Christian School has announced an upcoming change in leadership and a focus on strategic planning that will create long-term stability and set the stage for enhancement at the Pre-K through Grade 12 school.
In July 2021, Dr. Steven Lamkin, currently the SCS Principal and Assistant Head for Academics, will move into the role of Head of School.
Until that time, he will continue to partner with Interim Head of School Dr. Cathy Townsend to provide Salisbury Christian School’s 560 students with “a safe, positive environment where they can’t wait to come to school each and every day.”
“The combination of Dr. Townsend and Dr. Lamkin is dynamic,” said SCS Board Chairman Alfred Brumbley. “We are confident in the experience and innovation of the leadership team. Our mission advancement is sound, and our operations continue to develop in the tradition of excellence in education.”
Townsend brings to the school her 40 years of experience in education. She is a known entity
in the greater Salisbury area, having served as Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services for the Wicomico County Board of Education from 2011-17 and as a principal, assistant principal, teacher for decades prior.
While serving on the Salisbury Christian School Board of Governors, Townsend developed a love for and commitment to the school that made her the ideal candidate to serve as Interim Head of School.
As a complement to Townsend’s community connections, Lamkin is deeply ingrained at Salisbury Christian – currently serving in his fourteenth year there. He has seen the school from every corner – as a classroom teacher, a resource teacher, and a principal at both the elementary and secondary levels – and brings with him a deep passion for SCS.
He also contributes widely recognized insight, innovation, and research. His doctoral dissertation research was internationally recognized by the Emerald Research Group and led to the opportunity for Lamkin to share his research findings at Harvard University in the fall of 2017.
Lamkin is already focused on initiatives to strengthen the Salisbury Christian School academic
programming in order to better prepare students for what comes beyond graduation. “I’m passionate about meaningful technology use and integration that enhances educational outcomes and equips students to be respectful and responsible citizens,” he shares. “I’m also committed to continuing to develop a safe, positive school culture where students are known on a personal level and are raised up as leaders who will ultimately impact the world around them in a positive way.”
Founded in 1966, Salisbury Christian School exists to honor Jesus Christ by offering to students in Pre-K3 through Grade 12 a comprehensive, rigorous educational program founded upon Biblical truth and academic excellence. SCS seeks to develop its students intellectually, spiritually, socially, and physically, in order to create individuals who stand at graduation sad to leave but confident in their preparation for life.
