An experienced management and marketing executive has been chosen as the new President and CEO of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce.

Bill Chambers of Calvert County will bring 37 years of high-level organizational management expertise to the post. He has overseen large, multi-level programs that rely on public and private partnerships.

Chambers has served as President/CEO of the Calvert County Chamber of Commerce for two years and has represented more than 430 member business organizations.

The Salisbury Chamber has 820 member business organizations.

He has worked directly with the Maryland General Assembly members on legislation impacting local businesses and has also worked closely with local elected and appointed officials.

Chambers’ past Chamber experience also includes past chairman of the board for the Baltimore Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce, Calvert County Chamber of Commerce, and the Maryland Chamber of Commerce.

Prior to his role at the Calvert County Chamber, he served as the Executive Director of the Arts Council of Calvert County for over three years.

There, he managed the regional art gallery, state and county grants programs and arts-related educational workshops.

For 32 years, Chambers served as the General Manager of The Show Place Arena and Prince George’s Equestrian Center, a 6,000-seat sports and entertainment arena and 130-acre equine center, with an annual budget of $3.5 million and a staff of 150 employees.

Dr. Cathy Townsend, Chair of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, announced the appointment. She said the selection followed an extensive search by a committee made up of key members and officers of the SACC.

“We are excited to have Mr. Chambers on board,” Dr. Townsend said. “Bill’s extensive experience with Chambers of Commerce and his varied career experiences makes him more than qualified to implement the Chamber’s strategic plan.”

She added: “Bill is a leader and will be a truly effective voice for the business community. He will continue to build the Chamber as the area’s indispensable business resource.”

Chambers said he was excited to play a role in representing and serving Salisbury’s business interests.

"It is a privilege and honor to have the opportunity to serve the vibrant business community and the membership of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce,” he said.

“Along with a dedicated board and excellent Chamber staff, we will work to increase the Chamber's presence on the Lower Shore."

Chambers’ additional leadership positions include seats on the Southern Maryland Higher Education Board of Governors, Maryland Women’s Heritage Center Board, and Calvert Economic Development Commission.

He is a University of Maryland, College Park, graduate with degrees in Sociology and Criminology.
