Sadie Rose Carter

Sadie Rose Carter, 86

DOVER - Sadie Rose Carter, of Dover, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, in Westminster Village. She was 86. Mrs. Carter was born in 1922, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to the late Nicholas Carter and Josephine D'Anna Carter. She served in the U.S. Navy as a WAVE during World War II, where she worked in the office of the Chief Navel Operations. Mrs. Carter was a paralegal for some private law offices in Washington. She then worked for the office of Management and Budget. Mrs. Carter was a member of the Alliance Family Fellowship Church. She received many awards including the President's Award for Meritorious Service for her work with Offices of Management and Budget. She was preceded in death by her sister, Vera Gundlach in 1995. Mrs. Carter is survived by her sister, Eleonora Blumenstine of Dover; cousins, Margot Fortunato Galt of St. Paul, Minn., D'Anna Fortunato of Boston, Mass., and Stanley Fortunato of Pittsburgh, Pa. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover. Interment will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, in Columbia Gardens in Arlington, Va.
