MILFORD - S. Allen "Skip" Pikus, long-time Milford businessman and Ward 2 Councilman died Mon., July 6, 2015 at Bayhealth Medical Center, Milford Memorial Hospital. Skip was born in Dover, the son of the late Louis and Dora Pikus. He began to work for his father at Lou's Bootery in Downtown Milford in the early 1950's. He later partnered with his brother Terry, who passed away in 2012 and continued operating the business up until his death. Skip began his political career as a member of the Milford City Council from 1973 until 1981. He then served on Kent County Levy Court for two years, then back again on the Milford City Council from 1990 until 1996. In 2010, Skip was elected as the Second Ward Council Representative where he was appointed a member of the Police Committee, Annexation Committee and Chairman of the City Finance Committee. Skip was appointed to Senator Joe Biden's Academy Selection Board, served on the Delaware Economic Development Committee and was appointed as a Commissioner of Industrial Finance by the late Governor Sherman Tribbitt. He was a member of the Milford Jaycees, and was recognized as Jaycees Young Man of the Year, was a member of the Milford Elks Lodge and was an active member of the Milford Rotary, where he had served as Past President. He was a member of the Seaside Jewish Community in Rehoboth Beach and was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Union Lodge #7 AF & AM in Dover. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Terry S. Pikus in 2012. He is survived by his three sons, David Pikus and his wife, Katherine, of Westfield, N.J., Stephen Pikus and his wife, Gretchen, of Milford and Eric Pikus and his wife, Pixie, of Severna Park, Md.; one brother, Rubin Pikus, of N.Y.; and his grandchildren, Madeline, William, Dalton, Emma Rose, Alec, Lauren and Benjamin. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thurs., July 9, at the Rookery North, 6152 S. Rehoboth Blvd., Milford where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
