SMYRNA, DE - Ruth Ellen Shane went to be with the Lord on September 23, 2022.
She was the daughter of Perkins & Louise Staats of Smyrna, and is survived by her son, Keith and wife Terri; her daughter, Kristin; and five grandchildren, Morgan Jewell, Matthew Langton, Nicholas Shane, Mackenzie Langton, and Gillian Shane.
A devoted wife and mother, Ruth Ellen grew up as a typical small-town kid on her family's grain farm outside of Smyrna. She loved dancing - especially the jitterbug - with her favorite partner for 57 years, her husband Kenny. One of the highlights of any family event was seeing those two hit the dance floor and dance the night away. She spent her entire career in the secretarial field, and from the late 80s to the early 2000s, she was the financial secretary at Smyrna High School until her retirement. She loved watching her kids and grandkids go through life, and was extremely proud of all of their accomplishments.
In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her brother, George Staats; and her sister, Better Ann Pase; as well as several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and older brother, Jimmy Staats.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 29, 2022 from 6-8 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 8 p.m. at Fairies Funeral Home in Smyrna. A private interment will take place at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Delaware on Friday, September 30, 2022.
