Russell W. Jean

Russell W. Jean, 78 SMYRNA - Russell W. Jean, of Smyrna, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2010, at home. He was 78. Mr. Jean was born April 19, 1932, in Hermansville, Mich., the son of the late Alphonse Jean and Rose Trudell Jean. He retired as a Maintenance Scheduler after many years as both an active duty member and as a civil service employee for the United States Air Force. He was a life member of the American Legion Walter L. Fox Post 2 in Dover, and the VFW Post 3238 in Camden. Mr. Jean enjoyed building radio controlled airplanes, and previously enjoyed his time casually flying as a private pilot, commercial pilot, and a multiengine pilot. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and LeRoy. He is survived by his wife, Merle P. Jean; two sons, Russell W. Jean, Jr. of Lima, Peru, and Ralph E. Jean of Malvern, Pa.; a brother, Thomas Jean of Kentucky; two sisters, Margaret Ashby of Wisconsin, and Elaine Sterling of Michigan; and three grandsons, Eddie, Pete, and Scott. Funeral Services will be offered Friday July 2, 2010, at 10 a.m. in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, with burial immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702B Kirkwood Highway Wilmington, DE 19805.
