Russell R. Blanchard

DOVER - Russell R. "Russ" Blanchard, 88, of Dover, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, at Pinnacle Rehabilitation and Health Center, Smyrna. He was born on Aug. 7, 1923, in East Corinth, Maine, to the late Edgar and Mary M. (Palmer) Blanchard. Russell worked as a supply technician at Dover Air Force Base for over 40 years. After retirement he enjoyed spending time with loved ones, friends, playing bingo, bowling and traveling. He was also a member of Walter Fox Post 2, American Legion. Russell often commented on his greatest achievement, of raising his 8 children, as a single parent. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola A. (Nowell) Blanchard; sisters, Marion (Collin) Daniels, Dorothy (Ed) Wentworth, and Amy ) Joe Gordon; and his brothers, Robert and Morris (Patty) Blanchard. He is survived by his significant other, Patricia Gallagher; eight children, Marlene (Richard) Lozier of Hermon, Maine, Mina (Earl) Dyer of Hudson, Maine, Timothy (Dorothy) Blanchard, of Clearwater, Fla., Debbie (James) Hurd of Dover, William (Dawn) Blanchard of Beaver Dam, Wis., Kathy (Cubby) Morris of Hartly, Robert (Pebbles) Blanchard of Wyoming, and Donna Blanchard of Dover; 20 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, in the Trader Funeral Home Inc., 12 Lotus Street, Dover. Graveside services will be held on Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Glenburn, Maine. The family would like donations to be given to the Hartly Vol. Fire Co., Hartly.
