Roy W. Caldwell Sr.

SMYRNA - Roy W. Caldwell Sr. of Smyrna, passed away on Monday May 30, 2011, surrounded by his loving family at home. He was 69. Mr. Caldwell was born May 2, 1942 in Hartly, to the late Leonard and Margaret Russum Caldwell. He worked as a Butcher for many years, and then he went on to work for the Smyrna School District as a Chief Custodian, until his retirement in 2003. He enjoyed watching his birds and squirrels. He also enjoyed fishing and loved watching the Food Network. He had a special bond with his beloved cat, Squeaker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Ann Caldwell in March of 2010; two sisters, Dale Jean and Frances; and a brother, Leonard, Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Jo Ann Cain and her husband Gary of Smyrna; two sons, Roy W. Caldwell, Jr. and his wife Ann of Clayton, and Alan Lee Caldwell and his wife Melissa of Smyrna; a sister, Gladys Hurtt of Golts, Md.; grandchildren, Roy Caldwell, III, Amber Caldwell and her fiancée, Stephen Galloway, Austin Caldwell, Diana Janeka and her husband, Ricky, John Boyles, Jr.; a special niece, Ann Marie Cruz and her daughter, Aliana; and five great grandchildren. A viewing will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 7, 2011, in the Faries Funeral Chapel located at 29 South Main Street, Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 1 pm. Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park in Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the funeral home to help defray expenses.
