DOVER — Freshman guard Deywilk Tavarez netted a season-high 31 points and 10 assists to lead the Delaware State men’s basketball team to an 85-71 win over Norfolk State in a MEAC game at Memorial Hall on Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets (6-6 MEAC, 13-15 overall) ended a 16-game losing streak against the Spartans, beating them for the first time since Feb. 20, 2016.
DSU had four players score in double figures, Besides Tavarez, Jevin Muniz (16 points, five assists), Martaz Robinson (16 points, seven assists) and Cameron Stitt (11 points) led the way.
Delaware State, which snapped a two-game losing streak, collected 24 assists on 30 made field goals. The Hornets also forced 17 turnovers by the Spartans.
DSU led 78-54 with 3:51 left in the contest. The Hornets sank 10-of-22 three-pointers in the game.
The Hornets play at Howard on Monday before ending the regular season at UMES on Thursday.
Stony Brook 79, Delaware 56: The Blue Hens closed the regular season with the decisive CAA loss on Saturday.
Delaware (10-8 CAA, 18-13 overall) clinched the No. 6 seed in the upcoming CAA Tournament. The Hens finished in a three-way tie with Stony Brook, and Monmouth but UD has a better win percentage against them.
Delaware will take on the winner of the game between No. 11 Elon and No. 14 Hampton on March 9 at 8:30 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
Jyáre Davis finished with a team-best 16 points. He added 16 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season.
Niels Lane recorded 11 points as the only other double-digit scorer for the Hens.
WOMEN, Norfolk State 65, Delaware State 51: Savannah Brooks and Deyonce Thompson combined to score 31 total points in the Hornets’ MEAC loss.
DelState, which trailed 27-8 after the first quarter, fell to 4-8 in the MEAC, 8-17 overall with two regular-season games left.
Campbell 66, Delaware 65: The Blue Hens fell to 6-9 in the CAA, 10-17 with the loss on Friday.
Chloe Wilson’s 22-point performance led Delaware. With three games left in the regular season, the Hens are ninth in the league standings.

MEN, Michigan 13, Delaware 8: The Blue Hens (2-2) dropped the non-conference to the No. 11 Wolverines on Saturday.
J.P. Ward recorded his second hat trick of the year, scoring all three of his goals in the first quarter. Nick Jessen and Matt Acchione tallied two goals apiece.
