Gabe Wescott caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Troy Haynes with 5:09 left to lift Woodbridge High over Wilmington Friends School 20-14 in a nonconference football contest Saturday afternoon.
The game was a rematch of last year’s Division II state championship game, which Woodbridge also won.
Wescott had a pair of receiving touchdowns from Haynes. Richard Massey earned the other touchdown for Woodbridge (3-0) on a 10-yard rush.
Field hockey
Caesar Rodney 1, St. Mark’s 0: Jessie Prillaman scored with 12 minutes remaining as the Riders earned a nonconference win.
Lauren Caulk earned the shutout with 13 saves. Haydan Lord recorded the assist on Prillaman’s game-winner.
Cape Henlopen 2, Our Lady of Good Counsel, Md. 1: The Vikings outshot their out of state opponents 33-1 en route to the victory.
Kaylie Truitt and Cameron Smith provided the Cape Henlopen goals.
Volleyball
Appoquinimink 3, Caesar Rodney 0: The Riders dropped a nonconference contest 28-26, 25-19, 25-10 to the Jaguars.
Archmere 3, Cape Henlopen 0: The Vikings fell in straight sets 25-13, 25-8, 25-8.
College soccer
MEN, Delaware 1: Northeastern 0: Halvard Ramstad’s second half goal lead Delaware to a CAA victory.
The Blue Hens (4-2-1, 1-1 CAA) outshot the Huskies (2-5-1, 1-1 CAA) 20-6, recording six shots on goal to Northeastern’s one. NU played the final 35-minutes of the match with just 10 players after Moustapha Samb was booked for his second yellow card of the match in the 56th minute.
UD scored the game-winner in the 56th minute when Ryan Mertz was ripped down just outside the 18-yard box by Samb. On the ensuing free-kick senior captain Thibault Philippe sent a perfect ball that found a leaping Ramstad, who headed the ball into the left-side of the net. The goal was the sophomore’s first of the season.
Frostburg State 2, Wesley 1: Frostburg State’s Jonathan Lippitt scored in the game’s waning minutes as Wesley dropped the CAC matchup.
Chimaobi Ikwuagwu, a Caesar Rodney High product, opened the scoring with a goal for Wesley. But Frostburg tied it up 15 minutes later and eventually won on Lippitt’s strike.
Field hockey
Wesley 10, Notre Dame, Md. 0: Six different Wolverines scored as they earned a shutout win on Saturday.
Kaila Hindt paced Wesley with a hat-trick while Emily Wagner and Rebecca Dvorak each netted a pair of goals.
Brittany Bishop, Alicia Meier and Morgan Gannon also scored for the Wolverines.
Notre Dame only managed two shots in the game and Wesley did not record a save.
Volleyball
Wesley wins a pair in New Jersey: The Wolverines won twice at a tournament hosted by Rutgers-Camden.
Wesley edged Rutgers-Camden 3-2 before taking down Wilkes 3-0.
Codi Ziolkowski led the way with 12 kills in the Rutgers-Camden matchup and 13 kills against Wilkes.
