DOVER - Roosevelt Smith, the son of Idell and Willie Smith, was born in Meadville, Mississippi on April 21, 1936. He departed this life on Nov. 4, 2011. In his early teens he moved to Brookhaven, Mississippi, where he attended Alexander High School. At Alexander, he was a star athlete excelling in football and basketball. Upon graduating from high school, he was awarded a football scholarship to Perdue University. Upon realizing he missed his friends and even his home state, he left Perdue and enrolled and played football at what became his beloved Alma Mater, Alcorn State University. Anyone who knew him knew how he felt about Alcorn. Roosevelt took great pride in his service in the U.S. Navy. It gave him the opportunity to travel around the world and to form friendships that he maintained throughout the years. Roosevelt was an outstanding salesman and became a successful entrepreneur. He was an avid golfer and also greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Dover, DE. Roosevelt leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Jean; sons, Bryan (Karen), Ronald (Honoria) and Roger Smith; grandchildren, Brittney, Branden, Denisa, Sydney, Ronald Smith, Jr., Jael and Jaden Davis. Also surviving his memory are his godchildren, Lorraine Thomas, Kisha L. Webster and Jaclyn Davis; as well as, a host of relatives and friends.
