Ronald Redding Memorial Scholarship accepting applications

PRINCESS ANNE — Applications are now being accepted for the sixth annual Ronald Redding Memorial Scholarship, which is for high school seniors heading to college or trade school after graduation.

Applications are at high school guidance offices, or see the Facebook page Redding Memorial Scholarship for more information, or email rreddingmemorial586@gmail.com.

The late Mr. Redding was a 1978 graduate of Washington High School who after attending a year of college joined the U.S. Navy and served for 12½ years. Afterward he served one year with the Army National Guard. He worked in security for the private sector and had 25 years in Corrections as well.

He also worked in the Athletics Department at UMES, and officiated basketball and umpired softball for youth through college age sports.

An active member of the Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Company he was among the top 10 and top five for fire and EMS calls. He passed away at age 61 on Sept. 24, 2020.

This is the sixth year for the scholarship, the 2025 recipients were Jared Lowe of WHS and Tyiona Blue and Dillon Mister both from Crisfield High School.

The first year's recipient, Adela Rubio-Villafuerte, after graduating from CHS went on to Salisbury University and now teaches at Princess Anne Elementary School. Read her story here.
