Robert W. Thompson, 62

VIOLA - Robert W. Thompson, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, in Kent General Hospital. He was 62. Mr. Thompson was born Sept. 17, 1946 in Milford, to the late Ralph W. Thompson and Helen O'Day Thompson. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era. Mr. Thompson retired in 2004 after 36 years from Del Dot, where he had worked in the materials and research department. He was a past member of the VCF Ruritan, where he was president for many years. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Viola United Methodist Church, past council president. He was president of Viola Town Council. Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, William Edward Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sandra Stacy Thompson, of Viola; his children, Robert W. Thompson Jr. and his wife Jodi, and Stacy Thompson Bishop and her husband Brian, all of Felton; and his two grandchildren, Troy and Riley Anne Bishop. Funeral services will be 12 noon Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call two hours prior. Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
