WORTON, Md. - Robert Lewis "Lew" Smith, of Worton, died Feb. 5, 2009, at the Chestertown Rehabilitation Center, Chestertown. He was 77. Lew was born on June 30, 1931, near Lynch, son of the late Daniel Hopper Smith and Grace Dodson Smith Price. He was a self employed farmer in Kennedyville until 1963 and then worked at David A. Bramble's in Chestertown, for 31 years before his retirement in 1994. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Milton Price; and four brothers, D. Hopper Smith Jr., W. Lester Smith, J. Walter Smith, and Howard E. Smith. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Dorothy Campbell Smith; his four daughters, Debbie Nickerson and her husband Bob of Worton, Ginger Gouge of North East, Sharon Wingo and her husband Terry of Newark, Del., and Brenda Capel and her husband Ted of Chestertown; his sister, Dorothy Smith Boyd of Galena; sister-in-law, Margaret Hurlock Smith; eight grandchildren, Buck Nickerson, Stacie Johnson, Denver Honaker, Tammy Smith, Tim and Brad Wingo, Selena Littman and Kimberly Capel; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, where friends may call after noon. Burial in Union Cemetery, Worton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Worton U.M. Church, % Cathie Blakeney, 120 Pine St. Chestertown, MD 21620.
