LAUREL - Robert Kirkwood West, of Laurel, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011. He was 80 years old. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of Ardella Virginia Giles, of Laurel. He went to school at Ross' Point and continued his schooling in Wilmington. He received his bachelors' degree from Delaware State and was a member of a fraternity there. He taught Industrial Arts in the Philadelphia School System for over forty years. He served his country proudly by serving in Korea as a Communication Technician in the United States Army. Besides his mother, he is survived by two children, Tanya Davis and Robert West both of Arizona; three grandsons, Derrick Dominic Davis, D'Andre Dawayne Davis, and Kierre West; a sister, Ola Jones of Philadelphia; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marada Giles. Funeral services for him were held on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Johns A.M.E. Church at Ross' Point with Rev. Ida Ositelu officiating. Friends called at the church from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday. Burial followed at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro with military honors.
