FREDERICA - Robert "Bob" Bateman Peterson, Jr. went to be with God on April 2, 2015. He was born in Bridgeton, New Jersey on October 11, 1925 to Robert and Mary Peterson. During WWII, Bob served in the US Army Air Corps as an aerial gunner. Nine days after his honorable discharge, Bob married the love of his life, Hilda Marie (nee Frederick), on April 17, 1946 and they settled in Bridgeton, New Jersey. Bob worked for DuPont until he retired in the 1980s. The Petersons moved to Old Bowers Road in Kent County to take care of Bob's father, "Captain Bob", a well-known and beloved Bowers Beach fisherman. After Captain Bob's passing, Bob and Hilda renovated the farm house and were regular attendees at the Saxton Universal Methodist Church for many years. Bob and Hilda were inseparable throughout their 69 years of marriage: they were a devoted, loving couple. Bob enjoyed gardening and both Bob and Hilda graciously helped their neighbors, the Tuthills, on their working family farm next door. Whenever the need arose to help plant or pick, Bob (with Hilda always at his side) would volunteer to help. Bob also was an avid reader and was very knowledgeable on many subjects. Bob is mourned by his devoted wife, Hilda; Hilda's niece, Vicky Glacken and Vicky's family; and his devoted friends, Emily Tuthill Best and Erich Cramer. Special thanks are due to the following: Loving caregivers, Colleen, Heather, and Linda, as well as past caregivers Jerry, Jessica, Marlene, and Sue; Doctor Domingo Aviado who oversaw Bob's health care during the past year; Craig Harvey who volunteered to do yard care that Bob could no longer do; and Delaware Hospice for their help in recent days. In lieu of flowers, donations to a favorite charity are suggested. A Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover, DE 19904. Graveside Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday April 8, 2015 in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Main St. and Prettyman Dr., Cedarville, N.J. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
