Robert Arthur Lane, 78
Robert Arthur Lane passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. Bob was born in Dover, Delaware to the late Mary and Arthur Lane.
Bob attended Caesar Rodney high school and graduated in 1964. He met the love of his life, Bridget, in 1965. They have enjoyed 56 blissful years of marriage. They had two amazing daughters and four wonderful grandchildren. He loved spending time with all of them. He worked very hard to ensure that he could attend any activities that they were involved in to support them.
Bob was an avid baseball player from little league to a pitcher for Caesar Rodney high school. He continued to play for many years with Dover Merchants and Schreppler. Bob continued his love of baseball by coaching his daughters, Michelle and Sandi, when they were old enough to play; he continued to coach Sandi at Goldey Beacon college. Later he coached with his son-in-law, DJ, when his grandson played travel ball. He was a diehard Phillies fan. Besides baseball, Bob enjoyed golfing, boating, bowling and camping.
Bob joined the fire service in 1987 by becoming a member of the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company. He also served as the company's president for many years. From 2001-2002, he served as president of the Kent County Volunteer Firefighters Association.
Bob spent most of his career in car sales where he met many lifelong friends. He spent 15 years at the Delaware State Lottery before becoming a Realtor. He retired in 2018 from The Moving Experience.
He enjoyed many years singing in the choir at the Magnolia Methodist Church and he always looked forward to the Christmas Cantatas. For the past several years, we have attended services at the Roby United Methodist Church in Leipsic, where the members have welcomed us as part of the family.
In addition to his parents; Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Edith Lane George.
Bob is survived by his wife, Bridget Lane; by his daughters, Michelle Lane (Dennis) Stump of Milford, and Sandra (Pete) Unkrur of Felton; and grandchildren, Sydney Miranda Lane Stump, Bridget Ireland Lane Stump, Roman Jacob Lane Stump, and Phoenix Joseph Lane Stump.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, March 24, at 2pm, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 East Lebanon Road, Dover. A Visitation will be held from 12-2pm. A luncheon will follow at the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company.
In lieu of flowers the family welcomes memorial contributions to Roby United Methodist Church in Leipsic or the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company in Magnolia.
Letters of condolence may be sent and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
