Richard T. Driftmyer, 79 GOLDSBORO, Md. - Richard T. Driftmyer, 79, of Goldsboro, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at home. He was born on Feb. 25, 1930, in Gibsonburg, Ohio, to the late Paul and Nina Starkey Driftmyer. Upon graduating from Gibsonbury High School in 1948, Mr. Driftmyer entered the U.S. Army and served 4 years during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1958 and from Purdue University in 1960, with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Subsequently, he returned to the University of Toledo where he taught in the School of Engineering. In 1963, he began teaching engineering at the US Naval Academy. In 1971, Mr. Driftmyer joined the staff of the US Naval Warfare Center in Silver Spring, Md., where he was a test engineer responsible for wind tunnel tests and received two patents in aerospace technology. He was also a farmer and he retired to his farm in 1991. He considered farming to be his most fulfilling work. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Dover, DE where he enjoyed studying and worshiping the Lord. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lois Driftmyer; three sons, John Driftmyer of Bowie, Md., James and wife Nancy Driftmyer of Endwell, N.Y., and Jeffrey and wife Rose Driftmyer; a grandson, Thomas, all of Shrewsbury, Pa.; and two brothers, Carl and wife Rosemary Driftmyer of Port Clinton, Ohio, and Clarence and wife Gladola Driftmyer of Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 13, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 113 Lotus Street, Dover, Del. A visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, Feb. 12, at Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro. Interment will be private.
