Rev. Joseph (Joe) Nathan Mack was called home to be with the Lord on March 12, 2022. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, a United States Marine Corps veteran, a retired New York City police officer of 25 years and an ordained minister.
He was born in Orangeburg, S.C. on January 28, 1937, the only child of the late Mary (Maine) Mack and Henry Mack.
He is survived by his children: daughter and son-in law, Denise & Bobby Engelsen of Dover Del.; daughter, Rev. Faith E. Mack of Trenton, N.J.; daughter and son-in-law, Jo'Ann & Rev. Daryl Washington of Germantown, Md.; daughter, Felecia A. Mack of Rosedale, N.Y.; son and daughter-in-law, Jason & Lashona Chapman-Mack of Woodhaven, N.Y.; and daughter, Melissa Mack of Brooklyn, N.Y. He also leaves behind: his grandchildren, Nicole Christian, Keith Christian II, Ashley Washington, Jennifer Washington, and Brandon Bradley; his great-grandsons, Caleb Hodges and Richie Pottorf of Erie, Pa., his godson, Mark V. Morgan of Burlington, N.J. He is also survived by his aunt, Essie Whren of Rochester, N.Y.; and his uncle, Rev. Amos Goodwine, Sr. of Erie Pa.; as well as a multitude of extended family and friends.
The Engelsen, Washington and Mack families would like to thank Ernest Tamajong NP of Health First Medical Care and the Bayhealth Medical Center, especially the staff from the Emergency Department, 3 South, and Care Management, for the care provided during his brief illness. Additionally, the families would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of the support team from Bayada Hospice, including Tawana RN, Kate SW, Katrina NA, Chaplain Paul, and Angela RN, who helped him transition with grace and dignity.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Sharon Hills Memorial Park, 2928 Sharon Hill Road, Dover, DE 19904.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions, in honor of his life, be made to the Bayhealth Foundation, 640 South State Street, Dover, DE 19901 or to Bayada Hospice, 4250 Lancaster Pike, Suite 308, Wilmington, DE 19805.
