Rev. Frederick William Jones Jr.

DOVER - Rev. Frederick William Jones Jr., 77, of Dover, passed away on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital. Reverend Frederick William Jones Jr. is a native of Fruitland, Md. The son of the late Rev. Frederick G. and Hattie J. Jones, all Africian Americans, Africian Methodist Episcopals. Rev. Frederick W. Jones Jr. recieved his education from the Fruitland Elementary School, the Salisbury High School, Salisbury, Md.; Maryland State College with B.S. degree; University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland; University of Maryland, Amberg, Germany; Delaware State University, Dover, Delaware; American Management Association, New York, New York; Department of Interior, Washington, D.C.; Xerox Corporation, Washington, D.C., and the Salisbury State University, Salisbury, Maryland; certified in Alcoholism and Drug Abuse prevention. Frederick taught ten years at the Lockerman High School, Denton, Maryland, taught four years on the collegiate level at Delaware State College, served two years in the United States Army. He was ordained as Itinerant Elder in the Africian Methodist Episcopal Church in 1964 and has pastored four Churches in the Baltimore Conference Africian Methodist Episcopal Church. He served as Pastor of Queen Esther Africian Methodist Episcopal Church from 1971 to 1973, from 1973 to 1984 Pastored the Worton Circuit-Mount Olive A.M.E. Church, Rock Hall, Maryland and Holy Trinity A.M.E. Church, Edesville, Rock Hall, Maryland. He was appointed pastor of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Chestertown, Maryland in April, 1984. Rev. Frederick W. Jones Jr. has received many Awards and certificates the most outstanding are: Mayors of Chestertown Certificate for Outstanding Civic Activites, Mayors Citation for the City of Dover, Certificate of Recognition from the office of the Governor for the State of Delaware, Certificate of Recognition from the Girl Scouts of America, and a Certificate of Recognition from the United States of America, and a Certificate of Recognition from the United States of America Department of Transporation Federal Aviation Administration, Philadelphia Eastern Region. Reverend Jones family are mourning his passing, they are his wife, Mrs. Jean A. Jones; three sons, Stanley Stanford, of Dover, Christopher Jones(Sherry) of Dover, and Rev. Charles F. Dashiell of Severn, Md.; three daughters - Melvonia Wayman of Dover, Frena Jones-Lewis of Dover, and Danita Dashiell of Severn, Md.; eight grandchildren, Shawanda, Danesha, Latara, Keyondra, Javontae, Stancia, LaKeevia and Crystal; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Jones(Denise) of Chestertown, Md.; four sisters, Catherine Cephas (Alan) of New Castle, Frances Tolliver of Magnolia, Florence Brown (Robert) of Chestertown, Md.; and Ina Upshur of Dover. He further leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, fellow ministers, church families, friends, neighbors and acquaintances who are like wise in mourning. Funeral services will be Dec. 18, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Bethel A.M.E. Church, 237 N. College Avenue, Chestertown, with a veiwing one hour prior to the service. There will also be a viewing Dec. 17, 2010, at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home 717 W.
