Rev. Daniel Harvey Thompson

Salisbury - Rev. Daniel Harvey Thompson went to his eternal reward on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. Born in Allentown, Pa., he was the son of the late Rev. Harvey Raymond Thompson (1941) and Julia Sharpe Thompson Emerson (1982) and the step son of the late Rev. Clarence McLoyd Emerson (1965). Rev. Thompson was a member of the Lighthouse Wesleyan Church, Maryland Farm Bureau, VFW Meuse Post 194 and American Legion Post 64. He was a US Army Korean veteran and a graduate of Greensboro High School. He was ordained in 1961 thru the Holiness Christian Church denomination which later changed names to the Evangelical Christian Church, now known as The Wesleyan Church, of which he is an ordained elder. His pastorates included Fruitland, Salisbury, Crisfield, Snow Hill and Millington. While pastoring he had various carpenter jobs as well as driving school buses for the Wicomico County Board of Education. Prior to his ministry, he was a foreman and finish carpenter with R & O Kitchen Cabinet Company in Marydel and Dover from the age of 15 in 1948 until 1960. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Ruth Ann Jackson Thompson; two sons, David H. Thompson and his fiancée, Kim Payne of Salisbury, and Daniel K. Thompson and his wife, Cheryl of Princess Anne; eight grandchildren, Keith Thompson & wife, Heather of Marion Station, Jennifer Thompson of N.Y., Timothy Thompson, Dean Thompson, Carli Thompson & fiancée, Dennis and T. Aaron Thompson & fiancée Ashley, all of Salisbury, Jenna Bengtson & husband, Brandin of Colo., and Sergeant David Thompson of Wash.; eight great-grandchildren, Caleb, Wyatt, Addyson, Abigail, Daniel, Kaiden, Jordan & Bryson; and a daughter in law, Lori Thompson of Salisbury; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas D. Thompson (2007); five brothers, Leroy, Charles, Timothy, Harold and John Thompson; three sisters, Alice Ditch, Ruth Moyer and Naomi Bergen. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. There will be a visitation on Sunday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and also on Monday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury. Officiating will be Daniel Taylor, E. Wayne Holland, James Hitch, Robert Daniels, Terry Riggin and Harvey Dixon.
