Register: It’s no wonder a pedestrian was struck in Dewey

Posted

My wife and I went to Fenwick Island State Park to surf fish Aug. 30. When we traveled through Dewey Beach, both north- and southbound, it was a nightmare. Between the traffic, pedestrians, crosswalks, e-bikes, skateboards and bicyclists going between cars on Del. 1, it’s no damn wonder there are people getting struck by vehicles. People just walk right out in front of oncoming traffic without looking because they’re in the crosswalk — like they’re Superman or something. News flash: They’re not!

That stretch of road between the Lewes and Rehoboth Canal and the last traffic light in Dewey is a lawyer’s paradise, with collisions waiting to happen every day. Something has to change there, as it’s very dangerous for both pedestrians and vehicle operators trying to navigate through a maze of crosswalks, cars and people.
