Rebecca M. Melvin, 90 DEWEY BEACH - Rebecca M. Melvin, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family and friends, Saturday, January 2, 2010. She was 90. Mrs. Melvin was born May 12, 1919 in Elkton, Md., daughter of the late Ralph Dunbar and Marguerite Phelps (Myers) Morgan. While Mrs. Melvin was born in Elkton, she was raised on the Avenue in Rehoboth Beach. She worked for 25 years as a secretary with the Federal government, first at Ft. Miles, Lewes, and then at Dover Air Force Base; she retired in 1982. She enjoyed shopping, elder hostel trips, and shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. She also loved going to lunch with the Dewey Beach Lunch Bunch and she volunteered for five years with the Beebe Medical Center Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, George "Woody" Ellingsworth and Charles Olin Melvin; and two sisters, Frances Gower and Elaine Virginis. She is survived by a niece and nephew whom she raised, Linda Johnston of Millsboro, and John Lyell and wife, Ann of New Castle; a second niece, Gwen Martin and husband, Robert of Rehoboth Beach; four grandchildren, David Johnston of Jacksonville, Fla., Mark A. Johnston of Millsboro, John Lyell Jr. of Minnesota, and Anthony Loftland of New Castle; a great-grandchild, Mark A. Johnston of Millsboro, whom she adored; and a brother, Richard Morgan and wife, Pat. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Tabitha Benson for her loving care of Rebecca, and Margaret Robinson for her loyal friendship. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2010, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where friends may call starting at 10 a.m. Rev. Max Wolf will be officiating. Burial will be private at Epworth Methodist Cemetery.
