Lewes - Raymond Latch Matthews died April 4, 2015 at Acadia Healthcare Renaissance in Millsboro, Del. Raymond was born in Buttonwood Delaware in New Castle County to the late Latch and Alfronza Stevans Matthews. As a teenager, Raymond was trained at The State Training School, in Sussex County. His first job was caring for the clients at what is now, the Stockley Center. He loved people and was always willing to help where ever he could. Raymond then came to live at Bay Manor Farms with the Otis H. and Hazell M. Smith family in Lewes, Del. He handled all the day to day domestic operations of the house with skilled dedication and devotion. Raymond loved the animals and horses at Bay Manor Farms, especially the standard bred race horses. He remained with the Smiths until he entered Renaissance Center in 2004. Raymond was a "wonderful person". He was kind and gentle, and enjoyed just talking with people. He read his bible every day and was an active member of the St. George AME Church in Lewes for many years. Music was a big part of Raymond's leisure life-gospel, early country-western and jazz. He loved playing horseshoes, card games, and reading the daily comics. In his later years Raymond developed a passion for jigsaw puzzles and spent many hours completing even the most difficult ones with ease. In addition to his parents, Raymond is predeceased by his brothers, Arthur, Andrew, Paul, Edward and Albert. Friends are invited to attend a graveside committal service on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 2 p.m. , at The People's Memorial Park Hwy #1 & # 24 Midway-Lewes, Delaware. In lieu of flowers, donations in Raymond's memory may be made to the Sussex County SPCA, 22918 DuPont Hwy Georgetown, DE 19947. Arrangements entrusted to: Robert W. Miller Funeral Home & Cremations
