LAUREL - Raymond Francis Stevens, 81, of Laurel, passed away on Dec. 2, 2010, at Atlantic Shores Nursing Home in Millsboro. Ray was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of the late Raymond R. and Mary Ellen O'Shea Stevens. Mr. Stevens proudly served his country in the United States Merchant Marines and the US Army. He sailed as a Engineer from 1947 to 1965 aboard Liberty Ships, Lane Victory Ships and C-3 Freighters. He retired from Hartford Steam Boiler Insurance and Inspection Co. as a Sr. Chief Engineer. Family memories include his love of the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and rifle competitions. Mr. Stevens is survived by his son, Raymond M. Stevens and wife Joyce of Laurel; and a daughter, Carol Ann Wilmuth and husband Andrew of Gastonia, N.C.. His wife Birdie Stevens precedes him in death. A Graveside service will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel on Tuesday Dec. 7, 2010, at 11 a.m., where he will receive full military honors. Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home Laurel.
