SMYRNA - Rafael C. Pizarro, of Smyrna, Del. passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Pizarro was born Oct. 24, 1920 in Loiza, Puerto Rico, the son of the late Arcadio and Asuncion Pizarro. He served his country honorably in the United States Army in Okinawa, Japan during World War II. He also served honorably during the Korean War. He held many jobs during his life including serving as a Police Officer in Puerto Rico, from which he retired in 1958. He also worked for R.A. Boyer Construction for many years until his final retirement. Rafael was an avid Phillies fan and enjoyed watching wrestling and cartoons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Virginia Pizarro; his grandson, Robert Pizarro; and several siblings. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anastacia; his siblings, Daniel, Engracia, Irma and Ricardo; his children, Maria Dolores, Roque, Rafael, Regina, Angel Rafael, Lionel, Angel Manuel, German, Santa, Juana, Paulina "Polly" and Mildred; 32 grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren and extended family members. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located on 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, DE. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. Burial with military honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE.
