DOVER - Rachel Virginia Brooks, of Dover, formerly Pineville, S.C., departed this life on Tuesday, May 6, 2008. She was 67.
Ms. Brooks was born on April 8, 1941, in Pineville, and was the daughter of the late Moses L. and Mary Jane Gourdine.
She was educated in the public schools in Pineville and after the completion of her general studies she began working in various capacities.
After more than 17 years of faithful and dedicated services to the community, Ms. Brooks retired from Berkeley County, S.C., as a school bus driver.
During her years of service many lives were changed and enriched by her love and passion for mankind (certainly she will be missed and loved by all who knew her).
Prior to moving to Delaware, Ms. Brooks was a member of St. Mark's Holiness Church and after moving to Delaware attended Holy Trinity Church of the Living God in Dover when health permitted.
Ms. Brooks was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Billy Brooks; and brothers, Elmo Judge of New York City and Sanko Blanding of Pineville.
Those left to cherish fond memories are three sons, David (Aundrea) of Magnolia, Craig (Mariam) of Hampton, Va., and Shawn (Joanne) of Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter Rondell White of Kingstree, S.C.; six sisters, Bernice Smalls (Lewis) of Burminton, N.J., Ellen Bland of Pineville, Lula Mae Moyd (Aaron) of Oceda Andrews, S.C., Shirley G. Ellington of Pineville, Rev. Geraldine Eadie (William) of St. Stephen, S.C., and Angela Gourdine of Jersey City, N.J.; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Redeemer R.E. Church, Pineville, with interment following at Gourdine Family Cemetery, Pineville.
Arrangements by Young & McPherson Funeral Home, 309 North St., Milford.
