GEORGETOWN - Preston Elwood Workman of Georgetown passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was 93. He was born in Shortly, the son of the late Elwood and Sarah (Baker) Workman and a lifelong resident of Sussex County. Mr. Workman was dedicated to farming his entire life and one of the early pioneers of the poultry industry on Delmarva. After retiring, he took great pleasure in his daily rides through the local countryside checking the land as well as interest in agriculture the world over. He traveled extensively with the University of Delaware on agricultural tours. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Preston, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary; sons, Mark and wife Tammy and Chuck and wife Beth of Georgetown; daughter, Alta and husband Ted of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Cheryl of Bridgeville; sisters, Hilda Child and Kathleen Bryan; and brother, Ralph all of Millsboro; six grandchildren, Abby and Charlie Workman, Samantha and John Gordy and Jessica and Kyle Breeding; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 625, Georgetown, DE 19947.
