A 24-year-old Salisbury man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Monday night at Johnson Road, according to the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office.

At 10:45 p.m., deputies responded to the 30800 block of Johnson Road, where a car hit a tree, killing the driver, Tyran Deangelo Drummond.

Deputies said he was dead at the scene.

Nobody else was in the car, they said.

The continuing investigation is being conducted by the Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Police investigating Pierce Street murder

Maryland State Police are investigating the murder late Sunday of a 24-year-old Salisbury man who was found dead at home, where he was alone.

Police said Irvonte C. Jones was pronounced dead after being taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center. His body was then sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday, troopers from the Salisbury State Police barrack were called to the 1000-block of Pierce Avenue for a reported shooting, police said.

They met the owner of the single-family home, who told them she found her boyfriend, Jones, lying unresponsive in a bedroom. He had multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

According to the preliminary investigation, Jones was alone in the home when he was shot, police said. A description of the suspect hasn’t yet been completed and no motive identified, police said.

They said it’s unclear if someone forced his way into the home, or were let in by the victim.

Maryland State Police Homicide Unit investigators began an investigation. State Police crime scene technicians spent the night processing the scene for evidence, after a search warrant was obtained, police said.

Investigators interviewed neighbors and family members.  A Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office employee also went to the scene and was working with investigators, police said.

The Wicomico County Bureau of Investigation and the State Police Gang Enforcement Unit are also involved, police said.

Man pleads guilty to first-degree murder

Shaquan Wallace, 20, of Salisbury, pleaded guilty on Monday to first-degree murder in a home invasion that occurred in the Bryn Mawr Drive last May.

An investigation conducted by the Maryland State Police Homicide Division and the Salisbury Police Department revealed that Wallace, along with a co-defendant, entered the home, where Wallace shot and killed James Skinner, a resident of the home.

Wallace made statements to a witness, which were recorded by law enforcement, admitting his involvement as the shooter.

Wallace was sentenced to life in prison with an active period of incarceration of 50 years. Wallace is serving a sentence for a violation of probation, and his murder sentence will be consecutive.

Wicomico County State’s Attorney Matthew A. Maciarello, commended the Maryland State Police Homicide Division, Sgt. Chasity Blades and Sgt. Kyle Clark, as well as the Salisbury City Police Department, Detective Ryan Brittingham and Detective J. Miller, for their work in the investigation.
