What do Taylor Swift, the Academy Awards, Broadway, and Salisbury Christian School all have in common?  Every one of these entities has achieved the feat of flight with the same world-renowned theatrical flying service.

Salisbury Christian School has brought Broadway and Hollywood to the Eastern Shore by contracting with Las Vegas’s Flying by Foy for the school’s upcoming production of Peter Pan.  Flying by Foy has coordinated concerts, shows, and musicals all over the world, and SCS is thrilled to have the group on campus.

The SCS drama department has produced theatrical shows for two decades, putting on performances ranging from The Wizard of Oz to Arsenic & Old Lace, but the scale of the upcoming Peter Pan production is unparalleled.

“We have built an entirely new stage, had a rigging system installed, and are teaching our actors to fly…on top of rehearsing blocking, learning songs, memorizing lines, and working on character development,” says Kris Fullerton, drama producer.  “It’s a huge undertaking but such an incredible experience for our students.”

Flying by Foy has proven essential throughout this process, from building the rigging system to teaching actors ages eight to 18 the essentials of flying in a harness.

“Flying is an ethereal experience,” says senior Renee Benning who plays Peter Pan.  “It has enabled me to really feel like Peter Pan; I’ve been able to dig deeper into my character.  I’m lucky to have this opportunity even though I’m only in high school!”

The entire SCS community is abuzz with the excitement added by the element of theatrical flying.

“The news is spreading throughout the community and we have already sold many tickets for our performances on April 24, 25 and 26,” says Fullerton.  “People are very excited that we are including a company that has created successful shows for so many big productions, like the recent live television performance of Peter Pan,” says Fullerton.

The SCS actors know they are in good hands … and harnesses.
