SMYRNA - Peter F. Nolan, Jr., of Smyrna, passed away at home on Aug. 2, 2009. Peter was born on March 30, 1917, in Manhattan, New York City, N.Y., to the late Peter F. Nolan, Sr., and Anna McCue. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph, and a sister, Anne. Peter proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II, where he was awarded two Purple Hearts and two Air Medals. In 1942, he met the love of his life, Florence McCormack. They were married on Valentines Day in 1943, and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2008. Peter and his family moved from New York to live in North Weymouth, Mass. He was employed as an Electronic Date Processing Manager with the Walter Baker Company. The family then relocated to Dover, with Kraft Foods in the early 1960's. Peter was a Dover Little League Treasurer and coach for many years while his sons played baseball. Peter loved to play golf. He golfed his "age" when he was 81. He was a devoted fan to both the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. After retiring from Kraft Foods in Dover, Peter and Florence moved to New Port Richey, Fla., where they enjoyed many loving friends. In the summer of 2005, they moved back to Delaware. In his later years, while living in Smryna, Peter enjoyed going to Dover Downs and the Wagon Wheel Restaurant, where he made many special friendships. Peter is survived by his son, Michael P. Nolan, of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; son, Joseph P. Nolan, and wife, Missy, of Kennett Square, Pa.; son, Peter F. Nolan, III and wife, Susie, of Providence Forge, Va.; daughter, Kathleen Resh, and her late husband, Jim of Dover; and daughter, Gail Coverdale, and her late husband, Steve, of Bear. Peter and Florence were blessed with 13 grandchildren: Stephen, Amy and David Coverdale; Kim, Sara, Erin, Anna and Katie Nolan; Christine Resh Zlock and husband Andy, Jimmy and Jill Resh; Peter Nolan and wife Susan; and Stephanie Nolan Senogles and husband Mark; and 12 great-grandchildren, Zach and Drew Zlock; Ashely and Jordan Resh; Luis Resh; Chanel Dotson; Mariah, Morgan, and McKenzie Senogles; Matt, Caroline and John Henry. Extended family are Amy Resh and Luis Rios. Peter's special love was his wife, Florence, who predeceased him in May of 2008. Together they enjoyed 51 cruises. His faithful companion, Mikey, his dog, was his best friend. In Peter's memory, contributions may be given to: Delaware Hospice, 911 S.
