BRIDGEVILLE - Pearl M. Hassett was surrounded by her loving family when she went home to be with Jesus on Monday, Apr. 10, 2017, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. Pearl was born in Traphill, N.C., on Dec. 10, 1942, daughter of the late William Tyra Absher and Laura Hattie (Billings) Absher. She was also preceded in death by two grandsons and ten siblings.
Mrs. Hassett moved with her parents to Delaware from North Carolina when she was only three weeks old. It was in Delaware she met her husband, James G. Hassett, the love of her life, to whom she was married for 60 years this past Tuesday. She was a warm and loving person and was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and family. Her home in Absherville was open to all and was always full of family and friends that she loved dearly. She was like a mother to many of her nieces and will always be remembered as a sweet loving lady who loved Jesus and everyone around her. A memory remembered by many is if she heard someone say a bad word you were sure to get your hair pulled. In her latter years she was especially appreciative of the tender loving care provided by her granddaughter, Michele Piela and her niece, Candi Davis.
In addition to her husband she is survived by six children, Sherry Jessee Brown (Joe), of Bridgeville, Belinda Bauer (Randy), of Harrington, Penny Toomey (Dale), of Laurel, James "Jake" Hassett (Marcie), of Seaford, William "Steve" Hassett, of Bridgeville, and Rick Huffman (Dee), of Seaford; two brothers, Mack Absher and James Absher (Gail), both of Bridgeville; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, Apr. 13, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, where friends may visit one hour prior to services. Burial will follow the services at St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood.
