Pearl Elizabeth Roach

DOVER - Pearl Elizabeth Roach, of Dover, was called home to Our Heavenly Father on December 15, 2011, after a short, but courageous, battle with cancer. She was born in Smyrna, on September 7, 1929, to the late, Ollie and Evelyn Bratcher. She was a nursing student and graduated from her studies in Dover. She then married her high school sweetheart, Everson H. Roach, Sr., who preceded her in death on February 2, 2008, after 59 years of marriage. She was a Christian woman of tremendous faith and was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Mother's Board and Usher Board and she was also a member of the Sr. Choir, Combined Voices of Union, and sang with the United Women's Ensemble. She worked at General Clothing Company as a seamstress for over 30 years. She is affectionately known as MomMom, MomMom Butchie and Aunt Pearl. The loving and caring mother of 10 biological children was also a mother, mentor and friend to many. She enjoyed doing word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, reading novels and cooking. She was most famous for her homemade yeast rolls, vegetable soup and heart-shaped cakes. She is survived by her 10 children, Evelyn Roach Clayton (Robert), Decatur, Ga, Doris Roach Preston (Charles), Dover, Pearl Roach Douglas (Frederick), Dover, Carrie Roach Gunter (Rodney), Felton, Everson H. Roach, Jr., Dover, Warner E. Roach, Sr. (Stephanie), Lima, Ohio, Charles G. Roach, Sr. (Rosetta), Dover, Marian E. Roach Favors, Felton, Joyce Roach January (Kenneth), Petersburg, Va, and Ronald T. Roach, Camden; she is also survived by 24 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Margaret Roach, Margaret Bratcher, Caroline Stanley and Rena Bratcher. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Doris Martin; her three brothers, Ollie Bratcher, Jr., George Bratcher, Sr. and Donald Bratcher; and a grandson, Warner E. Roach, Jr. A public viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Dover. A second viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Union Missionary Baptist Church after which Celebration of Life services will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Reedie G. Moore, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Sharon Hills Memorial Gardens in Dover, Delaware. Arrangements are by Bennie Smith Funeral Home.
