WYOMING - Pauline Marie Coudright Moor Wemple went to be with her Lord Oct. 6, 2010, from her home at State Street Assisted Living. Born the daughter of Paul and Myrtle Coudright on Sept. 11, 1923. Pauline was raised in Wyoming. She graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1941 and received her teaching degree from the University of Delaware in 1944. Pauline taught school for 34 years, beginning with first graders at Ceasar Rodney in September 1944 where she taught for four years. She later taught at Townsend Elementary for one year and the rest of her teaching years were spent at Clayton Elementary School, retiring in 1985. Pauline was married to Harry Wilson Moor in 1946 who preceded her in death in 1966 leaving her with two teenagers to raise and educate. In 1974, she married William Westbrook Wemple, a widower and DuPont retiree, who came complete with three grown children and seven grandchildren. Bill passed away in 1994. Pauline and Bill enjoyed many summers and retirement years at their home in Kentmore Park, Md. In addition to her parents, Mr. Moor, and Mr. Wemple, Mrs. Wemple was preceded in death by her son, Richard Matthew Moor, on Jan. 29, 2005. Mrs. Wemple's strength, grace, and wit will be a loss felt by her daughter and son-in-law, Esther and Rick Downes of Smyrna; their children, Travers Downes of Rehoboth, and Ford and Marie Downes of Wilmington. She is also survived by daughter-in-law, Mary McKone Moor of Smyrna; grandchildren, Jennifer and husband, Keith Holdsworth of Bear, Matthew Moor of Smyrna, Alex Moor of Lewes; and their mother, Jane B. Moor. "Mom Mom" was delighted to learn of Travers' engagement to Laura Nauwens of Rehoboth and Alex's engagement to Mary Vaughn of Lewes. Pauline was richly blessed with four great grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace, Brooke Emma, and Benjamin Ryan Holdsworth, and Vivian Marguerite Downes. She is also survived by a step-son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Diana Wemple of Oregon, step-son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Mary Kay Wemple of Michigan, and step-daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Richard Snyder of Maryland. Pauline had a strong faith and was an active member of Ewell's St. Paul United Methodist Church in Clayton. She considered herself to have been richly blessed as a cancer survivor, having had radical surgery and chemotherapy treatment in the summer of 1974. She was a member of the Twentieth Century Club of Smyrna, a member of Clayton Town Council for three years, and served as a director of Clayton Savings and Loan Association for nineteen years. Her past-times included gardening, needlework, genealogical research, traveling and antiques. Pauline moved from her home on West Street in Clayton in September, 2002, to reside at State Street Assisted Living, where she was lovingly cared for by Marijane Copes and her capable staff. For the past three years, she was a client of Compassionate Care Hospice and blessed by their staff and especially her caretaker, Easter Goldware. A celebration of Pauline's life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday Oct. 11, at Ewell's St. Paul United Methodist Church on West Street in Clayton. Friends may also call from 9-11 a.m. Monday morning. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Camden. Although Pauline loved working with her flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be directed to Ewell's St. Paul United Methodist Church, PO Box 266, Clayton, Del. 19938, or to Compassionate Care Hospice, 910 D Walker Road, Dover, Del. 19901. Arrangements are by Matthews - Bryson Funeral Home, Smyrna.
