NEWARK - Mr. Paul L. Roman, passed away Monday, October 12, 2009, after a long illness. He was 76. Born in Cresson, Pa. on September 5, 1933, Paul was a son of the late Joseph Roman and Catherine Gans Roman. Following his graduation from high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country for four years. He later earned his bachelor's degree from Lock Haven University and his master's degree from the University of Delaware. During his career as an educator, Paul held teaching positions in Milford, Newark, and Wilmington. He was devoted to his students and often donated his time tutoring young people after school and during the summer break. Because of his lifelong love of sports, he also coached his students in wrestling and basketball. An active parishioner of Holy Family Parish for many years, he was a member of the "Springs of Living Waters" prayer group and often gave talks on how God works through our own emotions. He was an exceptionally good and moral man, a loving husband and father, and was much beloved by his family and friends. His crazy and wonderful sense of humor will be sorely missed. Paul's passing has left a hole in our hearts. We pray that he rests in the arms of Jesus. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Roman and Francis Roman; and stepdaughter, Lynn LaFrance. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Gwendolyn P. Henrion Roman; stepdaughter, Sharon McNesby and husband Joseph; sister, Margaret DeGennaro; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was offered at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at Resurrection R.C. Church, 3000 Videre Drive, Skyline Ridge, Wilmington, where visitation began at 9:30 a.m. Interment was in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Jesus House, 2501 Milltown Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808-3905. Arrangements by Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory.
