
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Patricia Wagner Gabel of St. Augustine, Fla. formerly of Dover, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 in Jacksonville, Fla.
Pat was born on Nov. 18, 1931, in Coatesville, Pa., the daughter of Jacob and Grace Wagner.
A graduate of the Coatesville Nursing Academy, Pat served as a supervisory nurse at Kent General Hospital in Dover from 1955 to 1966, then as an elementary school nurse in the Capital School District in Dover until her retirement in 1991. Soon after retirement, she and her late husband Walter moved to Palatka, Fla., then eventually to St. Augustine.
Mrs. Gabel was a member of several volunteer organizations, including the Kent County (DE) Red Cross Disaster Team, Capital Grange, Delaware Historical Society, Archaeological Society of Delaware, Putnam County (FL) Historical Society, a docent at the Bronson-Mulholland House in Palatka, Fla. as well as at the Lightner Museum in St. Augustine. She was an active member of the St. Augustine Shores Methodist Church. In addition, Pat was a painter and craft-maker. She was an avid fan of Penn State Football, rarely missing a game on television.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gabel was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; daughter, Jessica Gabel Triesler; a brother, Philip; and a sister, Grace "Bubbles" Pierce-Beck.
Pat is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Samuel) Dawson, of Miami, Fla. and Priscilla (Stephen) Robinson, of Birmingham, Ala.; and son, William (Julie), of Crofton, Md. Also survived by seven grandchildren, Brian (Tiffney) Triesler, Jennifer (Colby) Jones, Joshua and Jacob Scott Robinson, all of Birmingham, Ala.; Daniel Triesler, of Arizona, and Colin and Luke Gabel, of Crofton, Md.; and one great-grandchild, Elijah Gabe Triesler.
The family would like to thank the caring staffs of two hospice facilities - the Bailey Center of St. Augustine, and the Hadlow Center in Jacksonville who performed admirably taking care of our loved one during Hurricane Irma.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in St. Augustine in the Fall.
Interment will be held at Barratt's Chapel in Dover, at a future date.
