Patricia Ann Nemith, 85
Patricia Ann Nemith died peacefully at home surrounded by her husband and family on November 5th, 2023. She was 85 years old.
Pat was born on 7-14-1938 to Louis and Catherine Bishop of Greensboro, MD. She was an only child and grew up on the family farm in Greensboro. She graduated from Greensboro High School then traveled to Baltimore MD to attend nursing school at Lutheran Hospital. At Lutheran she worked as a medical/surgical nurse and graduated with her certificate in nursing. She would later obtain her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Wilmington College.
Pat married the love of her life, George Nemith, of Goldsboro MD and they settled in Camde, DE to raise a family. Pat worked at Kent General hospital and Milford Memorial Hospital as the head nurse of maternity and medical/surgical. She described herself as a multifaceted nurse and thoroughly enjoyed working at the hospital.
Pat began her career as a school nurse in the Caesar Rodney School District to have a work schedule that allowed her more time with her growing family. She was a nurse at Allen Frear and Mcllvaine Elementary schools for many years before her retirement. It was not uncommon to see Pat running on the field to help an injured player at CR sporting events. She was known as "the nurse". She retired from the school district with many lifelong friends and relationships that she had throughout her life. She always stated that they worked hard but had a lot of fun too.
Pat was awarded as School Nurse of the Year in 1987 by the Delaware School Nursing Association. She modestly stated that "I only do what all other school nurses do" as she believed the school nurse had one of the hardest jobs in the school.
In retirement, Pat enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Pat and George traveled to Hong Kong, Hungary, China, Russia, Greece, Turkey, and Spain. They enjoyed fly fishing in Montana, and hiking in Pennsylvania, Colorado, and New York. They would also spend many weeks in Stowe, Vermont. Pat also loved time with her grandchildren and showing them the tender and funny nature of their grandma and her love of butter pecan ice cream. Pat also kept up with all her relatives, friends from high school, nursing school and CR. She cherished time talking and meeting with them and would come back from lunches and dinners laughing with remembrances of fun times and the trouble they all got into. In retirement, Pat kept her nursing skills up as a volunteer with the American Lung Association and Hope Clinic. She brought a lifetime of nursing and administrative experience to those organizations and thoroughly enjoyed her time as a volunteer.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Nemith Suarez.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, George Nemith; children, Kevin Nemith and wife Cheryl of Camden, Delaware and Chris Nemith, wife Jamie of Gulf Breeze, Florida; grandchildren, Tara Shegogue (Kevin & Cheryl), Haliey Lyons (Kevin & Cheryl), Jullianne Nemith (Kevin & Cheryl), Benjamin Suarez (Kim), Adam Suarez (Kim), Jake Nemith (Chris) and Rachel Nemith (Chris); and great grandchildren, Colette Lyons, Cora Shegogue, Isaac Shegogue and Jarvis Gollman Jr..
Mass will be held Friday, November 10, 2023, at 10 am at the Holy Cross Church in Dover, Delaware.
